A wedding to remember

This Saturday we attended a traditional Sikh wedding at the largest Gurdwara outside of India.

We showed up about 9:20am... we got home around 8:30pm.

In between were a number of new experiences and the best Indian dinner we've ever had. Overall generalizing conclusions: an Indian wedding may not run on Western time, but the people sure do know how to have a celebration.

A few notes about Sikhism and/or Sikh weddings:
-the bride wears RED! The couple looked sharp enough to be straight out of a fairy tale, and made Aladdin and Jasmine look underdressed.
-the wedding is complete once the couple have completed four journeys around the holy book, representing the four stages of life and during which various blessings are said.
-the groom was to arrive on a white horse... unfortunately London was for once experiencing more than just a drizzle.
-everyone is required to cover their head while in the Gurdwara
-the ceremony is in Punjabi
-Sikhism is reported as the 5th largest religion in the world
-during the ceremony, men and ladies sit on separate sides of the aisle.
-they also sit on the floor "Indian-style" (the guy next me was slightly reprimanded for sitting with his legs straight out... apparently the feet traditionally should not be pointed towards the holy book, despite the fact that the founder of the religion spoke against this type of rule when he visited Mecca, saying that god is everywhere)
-they serve "holy bread" during the ceremony, a seeming equivalent of communion

It was quite the day and we'll be happy to share more stories in person.

I don't know which is more fascinating... the wedding story or the fact that you're actually posting.

I concur with the previous statement and ask that the record reflect my opposition to this lack of posting.
