Trains, Planes, and Automobiles

This week was one of the only times that I've been thoroughly miffed with public transportation.

Thursday I caught a cab to the train station in Southampton where I needed to catch the 6:00 train back to London. It's takes around 75 minutes on the direct train. I already had a ticket but as I sprinted down the platform, the train pulled away at 5:59:45. Only when you're running late to the trains leave early!

So... I had to stand there for 30 minutes and then catch one train, get off a few stops later, wait again, and then catch another train. Not much fun. I bought a packaged chicken wrap and some Maltesers (whopper equivalents) to ease my depression.

So the next day, it was to be the same routine. I called the cab 10 minutes earlier, but when I came downstairs there was no cab. Called the cab company who said they were running late. When I finally got dropped off at the station, I could see the train leaving the platform - at exactly 6:00:00. Again, this delayed my return significantly.

On a normal Friday, this would have only been a slight inconvenience, but Bree left this morning for Atlanta and will be gone for the next 10 days! I'm going to boycott the trains today to express my disdain for the hours they robbed me of spending with my wife.

I apologize if my message seems blurry, the post by my bro-in-law has brought tears to my eyes. After reading about your undeserved and outrageous predicament, I asked myself, "Self, what can you do to help the poor lad?" So, in true Christmas spirit, I have decided to give you and Bree a low-mileage, extended cab, Chevrolet Pickup truck as an early Christmas gift (unless we could work out some type of lease agreement that would have mutual tax benefits). No need to worry about the train leaving early or the cab arriving late. Feel free to continue posting your problems, as I am fortunate enough to have an unlimited supply of solutions. Merry Christmas!!
