DC
Thursday
Despite BA's efforts to cancel our flight due to the chaos at Heathrow Terminal 5, we managed to take-off for a whirlwind weekend on the home side of the Atlantic.
DC is sort of a halfway point we reckon between West Texas and London, so we had the chance to meet up with the S fam.
After an inspiring walk through of patriotic pictures and videos in passport control, we were greeted by Risa, who chauffeured us from the airport and then gave us the first in a series of 6 tours ... hers was the only one to cover Georgetown.
That evening we did a pre-arranged bus tour which would have been magnificent but for the London-like weather. It was so cold and wet, that more than half the bus stayed put at each of the stops. But whenever we convinced ourselves to go out, we enjoyed the splendid view of the lit up monuments. It was Bree's first time to DC, but I was particularly excited to see the World War II Memorial for the first time.
Tour number three of the Capitol was courtesy of a fellow Midlander. Tour 4 was a in-style driving tour of the monuments during the day and the warm sunshine. And, oh yeah, we were there in the middle of the Cherry Blossom Festival. We squeezed in some Mexican food before Tour 5 at the Pentagon. This was a great tour... the guide had the story-telling style of a yell leader.
We enjoyed being at the Kennedy Center at sunset and capped the evening off with Sheer Madness. You can't help but laughing.
Saturday
The climax of the entire weekend was the firework show that we waited patiently on the banks of the Tidal Basin to see... even Bree was disappointed. Sparklers at Granny's at New Year's were far more eventful. Surely they must put all of their efforts into 4th of July? Or maybe they just run out of dough at the end of a presidential term.
Saturday's dinner of all you can eat Argentinian steak still makes my mouth water.
Sunday
Our final tour included Mexican food and Old Town Alexandria.
All-in-all 4 days well spent with the S fam. Next time we'll bring our own fireworks.

On a whim, I decided to check your blog - and what do you know?! I'm glad you enjoyed your trip - sorry the weather was yuck for the monuments at night tour...did you get out for the Korean War memorial? I thought that was particularly cool.
I wish I could've been there, I was too busy searching for fireworks by the water and catching a cold! :)
Oh mouse in the pocket...a little cold weather never hurt anyone. You need to toughen up! You sound like one that would take a limo around to tour the city! :)
Glad you guys had a nice trip.
Christy
