Normal life

Well, we've lived a pretty normal life the last two weeks.

What does normal look like for us?

The alarm goes off at 6:30, we snooze until 7:30, rush out of the house. Matt on the bike; Bree on the train to make it to our desks between 9 and 9:30. Doing the bike thing is a bit humbling as I have to walk into my office building all sweaty - ride the "lift" to the fifth floor to take a shower and then go half in work clothes, half in biking clothes up to my floor to put on my suit. But the 10.5 miles of exercise instead of jamming in with the sardines on the trains is a great change of pace.

Between 6:30 and 7:00, we call it a day, come home and throw something EXTREMELY simple into the microwave or the oven. Have dinner. Talk a bit. Read a bit. Maybe make a phone call and then go to bed by 11:30.

We've had more occassion to go out to eat with friends new and old- particularly at the Fish Club of course! They still treat us like royalty there because of how much they loved Jenny.

This weekend we played some tennis against another couple - it was a dead heat when our two hours ran out. (You don't want to beat someone the first time you play anyway, right?)

The banking crisis is unbelievable to watch - though I continue to sit in what seems to be a safe perch to watch, observe, and learn. Not sure what else I can say without getting permission from my boss - and I don't have one of those at the moment, so that would be difficult!

We continue to do a lot with the church - but they just put up with us as who they really want is Jennifer.

No one in Europe can seem to understand why Obama isn't miles ahead in the polls against McCain - any explanations from the homefront? They don't find it amusing when I quip that there's still a lot of Americans who aren't socialists - particularly with the current economic turmoil, so I need some new info.

Last week Bree made chicken enchilladas that we ate 4 meals in a row. This week it was carrot muffins that I ate everyday for breakfast.

Two posts in a month - now you'll really be confused!

Yum! That makes me want to make chicken enchiladas. I enjoyed the peek into your routine - but I won't venture to give political or banking food for thought - that's out of my paygrade for right now. :) One thing that I will miss terribly on election day though is doing the mock election at school and taking my class with me when I vote. Did I tell you last year when I took my 5th graders to the primary election, even though I warned them it is illegal to talk about the candidates once you are inside, one of mine announced at the top of his lungs, why didn't you vote for.... (his pick for sheriff). It was quite embarrassing!!!
I will venture to guess that Europeans don't know how prejudice still hangs out in this country.

I'm a little late in reading this (Oct 4) but after I missed two calls from you and you missed one from me, I thought I'd check for news. RAJ explained to me why I probably couldn't get through to you, but I'm not sure I believe that you weren't just out late haveing fun??? Just wanted to find out more about the uncle/cousin meeting. Mealtime here is twelve to one (or a little later depending upon how long we visit) and five to six or a bit later. Try me againk!! Love to you both, Maw Maw

It is October 13th. I just checked your blog out of inability to sleep... and I am shocked. I went almost an entire month without knowing your routine. The most recent political news is that I am registered to vote in my current county. And I have recently been facebook friended but one of my fav londoners... and I'm wishing I was at church and the fish club RIGHT now!
