In case you haven't gathered by now, I took my first sick day from work today. I must say, it's just not as much fun as staying home from school. I did get to sleep a little later and will definitley be going to bed earlier. And then I get to look forward to doing everything that I should have done today tomorrow. Lucky me!

We've had an adventurous few weeks lately - after the trip to Chamonix, Matt stayed an extra weekend for some solo skiing. He survived and so did I. Since, then we've...

seen the first two episodes of 24, introduced 3 new people to Settlers of Catan, helped start a Sunday night service at our chuch, had a cook- off for some friends (his spinach shells beat my lasagne, but we'll be having a re-match soon), lost our keys (multiple times), discovered a cheap plastic window-glazing substitute to block out the noise and minimise the cold coming in through our windows, learned about Mobius strips and Klein bottles (topological terms) with some new friends, discovered why the plastic window-glazing substitute was so cheap, had dinner with someone who is about to have an Erdos number of 3 (quite possibly the youngest person with an Edros number of 3 and the last one of her generation), bought a new toilet seat, watched The Notebook (my birthday present from last year - thanks mom and dad!), realised that this winter is just as cold as last year but we're accustomed to it now,

and the most exciting news that happened just last night... got a Texas phone number through Skype, so that all of our Texas friends and family can call us for free (hopefully).

Note to Readers: Unfortunately, we will not be posting the number on our blog. If you would like the number, please email us and we will gladly share it with you.

**Bonus points for the first person to correctly identify what an Erdos number is**

And finally, a few greetings:
Happy LATE birthday to cousin Christy!
Congratulations to cousin A and A!
Happy Birthday to Steven and Wendy - although technically, this past weekend would have been the official weekend for our joint birthday celebrations, so those birthday wishes are not too belated!
Happy Birthday to Bekan J!
Happy Birthday to Bekah A! - Wait, let me say that in this country's language - Happy Birthday, Bekah! (See Rach, I do read your blogs)

Its not every day that someone gets a paper published with someone who has had something published with someone who worked directly with the late great Dr. Paul Erdos.

Note: Please correct your blog with the correct spelling of one of the greatest mathematical publishers in history.

My name was Miklos Ruszinko - with an Erdos number of 1. I have 12 co-authors and would like to point out that a gentleman that is related to you will become my 13th co-author once he passes on - as his work is meant to be published posthumously. So there is a very good chance that one day you will be able to say - i knew an Erdos number 2 and you Mike Matthews are no Erdos number 2.

I wanted to be the first - so Happy Birthday Bree! I was going to buy you a car for this big occassion - but Matt said that you really didn't need one, so instead I stopped and got you some McDonalds gift certificates (they have those in england, right?).

Also - Mrs. Josefy, thank you for your acknowledgement, I think Slade would join me in letting everyone know that we offer our humour as a courtesy to all that read, however, if anyone feels that our humour has made an extra special impact on their life please do not think that we would be too proud in accepting cash gifts (non-sequential, unmarked bills please).

Once again, HAPPY BIRTHDAY BREE!!
